Basic Tooling – Western Flower Coaster                                                                 Cost: $20

In this beginner-friendly class, you'll learn the foundational skills of leather tooling while creating a beautiful western flower design on a coaster. Using vegetable-tanned leather, you'll practice carving and stamping techniques with essential tools, including a stylus, mallet, swivel knife, and the six basic stamping tools. Ample practice time will be provided to ensure you feel confident with the tools before completing your project.

Tools:

  • Bring your own tools if you have them, or purchase tools from DA Leather.
  • Tool rental is available for $10.00, which can be applied toward the purchase of a basic six-tool set and mallet if you decide to buy.

Registration:

  • Pre-registration is required by January 25, 2025.
  • Stop by the shop or call/text 503-702-1848 to reserve your spot.
  • Class size is limited to six participants to ensure personalized instruction.

Intermediate Leatherworking: Make Your Own Purse
This class is perfect for those with some prior experience in leatherworking and basic tooling.

In this first session of a three-part series, you'll learn how to design a pattern (covering all the essential details) and cut vegetable-tanned leather to begin creating your own custom purse.   The purse design is a classic purse and you will be able to choose from a few patterns to tool on the front of the purse.

In the second session of the Purse Making series, you’ll learn how to mark your leather for sewing or lacing holes, scribe the leather to prepare it for tooling, and begin tooling the pattern for your custom purse.

The final session you will learn:

  • Leather dyeing techniques and how to apply different types of finishes to your purse project.
  • Sewing and lacing techniques to assemble your purse.

By the end of this class, you will have completed your custom leather purse, ready to take home and show off!

Important Details:

  • Enrollment in all three classes is required to complete the project.
  • Basic tooling skills are a prerequisite.

Tools:

  • Bring your own tools if you have them, or purchase tools from DA Leather.
  • Tool rental is available for $10.00, which can be applied toward the purchase of a basic six-tool set and mallet if you decide to buy.

Registration:

  • Pre-registration is required by January 25, 2025.
